Burlington Landlocked Parcel
History & Location
The Burlington Landlocked Parcel is an undeveloped 247-acre property located at the interchange of Route 3 and Route 128, bordered by the towns of Bedford and Lexington. In 1985, the Town of Burlington acquired the landlocked parcel through eminent domain. The land is mainly comprised of open space and is used for recreational activities by Lexington and Bedford residents who have pedestrian access to the site. Both of the abutting towns have taken legal easements on the land directly bordering the property to prevent vehicular access. In 1997, in a non-binding town-wide referendum, Burlington residents voted to create access to the Landlocked Parcel in order to use it for a multiple-use recreational facility (including a golf course) and voted against leaving the Landlocked Parcel in its natural state with no access.
